The joint action council of trade unions of autorickshaw, taxi and light motor workers under has called for an indefinite strike from July 4 demanding fare revision.
“Over 10 lakh auto rickshaw, taxi and light motor vehicle workers will participate in the strike”, said joint council convenor KV Haridas while addressing a press meet.
“The government had revised auto-taxi fares in 2014. But fuel price has increased several times following the fare revision. It is impossible to continue the service at the present situation”, said joint council committee members.
Apart from fare revision, the joint council is pressing a number of demands with the strike. It includes withdrawal of advance road tax payment for 15 years levied for taxis, cancel hike in fees at RTO office, reduce the fine charged by legal meteorology department and solve the drawbacks in welfare fund.
Joint council chairman E Narayanan announced that tempo travellers, goods auto rickshaws and jeeps will also participate in the strike. All trade unions except BMS will join the strike.
